Athyrium asplenioides (Southern Lady Fern)
This easy to grow, clumping native fern is deciduous, grows to three feet tall and one foot wide, and its slow growth means it won't be a pest. It prefers shade/part shade in rich, moisture-retentive soil in Zones 5-8. Be sure to protect it from strong winds.
