Festuca scoparia (Bearskin Fescue)
No photo yet of this cute fescue. A customer last year asked if I had miniature fescue. I didn't then, but I do now. "Bearskin Fescue" is a clumping alpine fescue that forms dense clumps that will colonize over time. Its bright evergreen foliage is a little prickly but in no way uncomfortable to the touch. It grows 4-6 inches tall 6-12 inches in flower) and is excellent in rock gardens, trough gardens, borders, containers, and is often used in bonsai gardens. The fine green flower stalks transition to gold. Sun/part shade in well-drained, gravelly soil. Zones 4-10.
