Thalictrum lucidum (Shining Meadow Rue)
Thalictrums are among my favorite plants, and this is a new one for my garden and nursery and a bit different from the others offered. For starters, its foliage is more like that of a fern than a Columbine, and it's narrow and glossy. Like other Thalictrums, the foliage is quite pretty enough without even the thought of flowers, but Thalictrum lucidum has some of the best flowers going: soft, airy, and creamy yellow and fragrant. I cannot vouch for this, but the blooms are said to smell of roses! Thalictrum lucidum grows to five feet tall, and even though it looks fragile, it can stand on its own, is not particular about soil, and prefers some shade, but it withstands full sun, too. It is also hardy to Zone 5. Everyone who grows this one says it's a must for the back of the border or the woodland garden.
