Patrinia scabiosifolia, native to Japan and Korea, will brighten a border like nothing else. This bushy, upright perennial with almost neon yellow flower clusters, will attract the attention of everyone who sees it, including the butterflies. Growing to about four feet (or more) in average soil and sun/part shade, Patrinia is a long bloomer, too. If the bright, cheery color and long blooming period aren't enough to sway you, then there's this: Patrinia scabiosifolia is also a reliable spreader and can be divided in spring. This is an old garden favorite and one I'm thrilled to have in my own garden after all this time. Zones 4-9. Quarts.
